Stamptaculars sunday Challenge #104 NO KIDS ALLOWED

This is my card for the Stamptaculars Sunday Challenge #.104. NO KIDS ALLOWED - Adult birthday... all sorts of interesting themes came to mind but I have no stamps for them...lol... so I picked CAKE!!! everybody likes Cake!!!! I used my Expression Cartridge - Life's a Party... I saw it at Betty Brett's Swarm from Betty Bee's Buzz and HAD to have it! I used Pg 61 Card button. Set at 7 3/4inches. I filled in behind the openings in the card front with several different papers and also a stamped presents with Happy Birthday! Then I took my own printing press stamps and did the word FIRE!!! and stamped off randomly the front of the card and also the inside left side! I put the cutout section also on the inside to fill in the left space. I used my Martha Stewart Drippy Goo Punch for yummy frosting dripping down the side of the cake! I ran the punch thru my 2" xyron so all the ends will stay down. Then I used my own printing press stamps again to print the words.... JUST CANDLES!! hey growing old ain't for sissies ya know... hahahahaha Go over to Stamptacular Sunday Challenge and see what other adult birthday cards are there!

Iris Folding

this is my version of Wanda's Iris Folding technique from Betty Bee's Buzz. I used 4 pastel sheets of paper with violet as the similiar color in each. I cut 1" strips then folded them in 1/2 lengthwise. I cut the opening with my new Sizzix Frame, Hanging w/Scallops that I won at Betty Bee's Last swarm in Punta Gorda in March. (This is what is left over after you cut out the frame... I put the frame part inside to write your message... and the very center will be a backdrop for one of mom's images - yep gotta use every scrap...lol) It would probably have been cute to leave the center open a little and position a picture or one of mom's images in the center to highlight that!

Check out Wanda's Blog and Betty Bee's Buzz for lots of great ideas. Try Iris folding, it's easy and makes wonderful card fronts!!!

Thanks for looking!

Relay for Life

Some of our neighbors came around asking for donations for American Cancer Society Relay for Life. That got me to thinking about all those around me touched by this dreaded disease. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.

My niece Julie Trego is a survivor! My friends Joanna Janish and Ruby Poling fought long and hard but now are in heaven resting until we all are together again. My friend Juanita Frederick was just diagnosed with Cancer.

Please support the American Cancer Society, however you can!!!

Jingle Belles Rock Fri March 25 - the holly and the ivy

this is my card for this week's Jingle Belles Rock Fri Mar 25, 2011. This week's Christmas card must incorporiate holiday foliage. I used the Cuttlebug Snow Dots folder for my background. A holly wreath from my Expression cartridge, which I highlighted with my copic markers. Then I popped up with dimensionals, a sweet little house mouse with a bow on her head, also colored with my copic markers. I took classes on copics from Betty Brett at Betty Bee's Buzz, she is a wonderful and patient teacher if you are in Central Fla (or she says she will travel). I think I'm starting to get the hang of the shading and shadows. I thought about adding glitter to the bows or maybe to the snow dots in the background.... what do you think???
I also did a Cuttlebug embossing Holly leaf folder. I colored with my copics. I need to check with others and see how they get such great pictures. This one is too light... but it's pouring rain outside and the flash just melts away the colors. I used the bow maker that Betty Brett's son made. It's great! Lauren, there's glitter on the berries but that doesn't sparkle much in this picture either!
Thanks for looking!

Volunteer Project - Lap quilts for nursing home

This is one of the lap quilts I did for some residents of a local nursing home. My good friend Henrietta Hoffman and I are each quilting away. The pattern is similiar to courthouse steps except you do front, padding, quilting and back all in one seam so we call it our Love Quilts.... cuz we love our seniors and we love having a good deed go so quickly. We can get a lap quilt completed including the handstiched binding in about 4 hours!!! CAN YOU SAY BRIGHT PINK what a focal color!!! The material was a donation from my good friend Connie Scott from Texas. The backing is flannel from my Michigan stash that I think was going to be nightgowns but this is so much more FUN!!! I should be able to do 4 before our project time runs out! 2 are completely done...1 more cut out and I have some more fall colored leafy material that should make at least 1 more...going to sew more tonight and all day tomorrow!!!! Happy stitching.... remember the stitch is lost if the thread isn't knotted......

Challenge #103 Stamptacular Sunday Challenge

This is my card for Stamptacular Sunday Challenge Challenge #103 Are you talking to me??? We were challenged to use a stamp with words that would convey your meaning! My first choice was the House Mouse chewing on a pencil but I left the "word" stamp in Michigan that said "DON'T ASK! It's been one of those days!!" so I went to my second choice of Happy Birthday. This image was from my mother's stash from our friend Betty Bee at Betty Bee's Buzz who had a birthday party to celebrate my mom's 99th birthday at her March Swarm. I used my copics that I'm just learning to use, thanks to classes from Betty Bee.
I did a trifold card that I cut, folded and then put thru my Cuttlebug with the Happy Birthday folder. I put it thru sideways and use LOTS of muscles! The inside paper is from Joanne's and I thought reminded me of birthday cake with yummy frosting and candy sprinkles. I used Martha Stewart Double loop punch round the corner on both the yummy frosting paper inside and the front back drop for the birthday cake!
Thanks for a great challenge! check out the other cards at Stampacular Sunday Challenge!

Twine it up March 21 Challenge Betty Bee's Buzz

This is my card for the Twists on Twine challenge at Betty Bee's Buzz . Courtney Lee challenged us to use Twine in new twists. The twine I used was Jute Twine. It started me thinking of spring and gardens and having/getting to go back to Michigan. Spring in Michigan means seeing a robin... better predictors than that ole groundhog in PA...lol. Robins will pick up all sorts of things to build their nests. I used my Stampin UP punch in brown and red, with a slight modification to give the RED RED ROBIN her bob bob bobbin red breast and a dimensional to elevate her wing. Then I put a rectangle piece thru the xyron twice so it would be sticky on both sides. Using scissors I cut out a boat/nest shape, I placed pieces of jute in random fashion to make the nest. I used the Birds and Swirls cuttlebug folder for the back ground.

Thanks for looking at my card and go check out the samples at Betty Bee's Buzz!

Lucky Penny Holder

I am so honored to be asked to be a guest designer on Betty Bee's Buzz http://bettybeesbuzz.blogspot.com/for March 28, 2010 Monday Motivational.

I have decided to share with you my crocheted Lucky Penny Holder.

The supplies I used are

Crochet Cotton Size 10
Steel Crochet Hook size 6/1.80mm
Penny
12 inches 1/8" satin ribbon
scissors
Basic stitches: Ch (chain), sl st (slip stitch), sc (single crochet), dc (double crochet)
Round 1: chain 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring. Chain 3 (counts as DC). 15 DC in ring. Join with sl st in top of ch-3. total of 16 DC

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, (6 dc in next st (shell), skip next st, sc in next st, skip next st) repeat around edge. Join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Back: On the backside of your flower. Sl st to base of one of the shells. Ch 3 (DC into space between shells, Chain 1. DC into base of shell DC, Chain 1). Repeat around. Join with sl st in top of ch 3. fasten off leaving a 3-4in tail.
Insert penny into back sleeve. Weave tail in and out thru top of back sleeve. Pull down like drawstring. Sew opening closed and weave in ends.

Weave ribbon thru stitchs of rnd 2. tie bow in front.

Note: Flowers can be made from the same steps. There would be no need for the back sleeve. You could do the first round as single crochet sc then Shell row. If you vary the size of your crochet cotton and or hook you will get different size flowers. Enjoy! Remember there are no mistakes, just HYBRIDS...

For my card I used

MS Punch Round the corner - Double Loops.
Cricut Classic Font for 3 flower border. pg 74
Computer Generated Poem with Print Shop
Bee paper from Tuesday Morning
other paper from my stash.

If you aren't a crocheter... you could display your penny as a center of a flower. Like the Sunflowers from Walk In My Garden or one of the other Cricut flowers. Or use lace or material and make a yoyo. We are only limited by our imagination.
To get the correct size for the 3 flower border pg 74. Use your fit to length button on the left side of your expression. I set it for 5" for my card. Watch the monitor and it will tell you what height will make that length. For me it was 1 3/4". Then you can set the size and do autofill and make multiple cuts that will fit your card perfectly and make lots of cards!!! Write it in your book so next time you're all set to go! Another tip I recently learned when you mail a card with a hard dimensional either put a piece of cardboard over the front or flip your card inside out with the embellishment on the inside... it won't be as pretty when they open the envelope but it will arrive in undamaged condition!

I made poem holders for Betty's March Swarm - Flying High with the Birds and the Bees

The poem reads:

I found a penny today, laying on the ground
But it's not just a penny, this little coin I've found.
Found pennies come from Heaven.
That's what my Dad told me.
He said that Angels toss them down.
Oh, how I loved that story.
He said when an Angel misses you
They toss a penny down.
Sometimes to cheer you up
To make a smile out of your frown.
So, don't pass by that penny
When you're feeling blue.
It may be a penny from Heaven
That an Angel's tossed to you.

Now you give it a try! Have fun creating! I look forward to seeing everyone's version!
Special thanks to Betty Brett and my Texas friend Connie!
